Dodecane is a colorless liquid with a distinctive odor.
Dodecane is mainly used as a solvent in the chemical and petrochemical industries. It is also used as a lubricant or fluidifier in certain applications.

- Reactivity: Dodecane is chemically stable and non-reactive at room temperature.

- Solubility: Dodecane is practically insoluble in water, but soluble in organic solvents.
- Health risks: Dodecane may cause respiratory tract irritation if inhaled. It may also cause skin and eye irritation on contact. It is not classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic for reproduction.
- Protection and prevention: It is advisable to handle dodecane in a well-ventilated area, and to wear personal protective equipment such as gloves, goggles and a respirator. In case of contact with skin or eyes, rinse with plenty of clean water. If inhaled, remove from source and seek medical advice if necessary.
