Diarsenic pentoxide appears as colorless or white crystals.  It is mainly used as a reagent in organic and inorganic chemistry, as well as in the manufacture of special glasses.

Properties of diarsenic pentoxide (As2O5):

  • Reactivity: Diarsenic pentoxide is a strong oxidizing agent and may react violently with flammable substances.
  • Melting point: It melts at a temperature of around 315°C.
  • Solubility: It is soluble in water, forming an acidic solution.
  • Health risks: Diarsenic pentoxide is toxic and can cause skin, eye and respiratory tract irritation. Prolonged exposure can also cause respiratory problems, lung damage and carcinogenic effects.
  • Protection and prevention: It is advisable to handle diarsenic pentoxide in a well-ventilated environment, wearing personal protective equipment such as gloves, goggles and a respirator. In case of contact with skin or eyes, rinse thoroughly with water and seek medical advice if symptoms persist.
