1,2-dichloro-1-fluoroethane (C2H3Cl2F)

1,2-dichloro-1-fluoroethane is a colorless to yellowish liquid at room temperature.  It is used as a solvent in the chemical industry, as a refrigerant and as a blowing agent in the manufacture of plastic foams.

Properties of 1,2-dichloro-1-fluoroethane (C2H3Cl2F):

  • Reactivity: May react violently with strong oxidizing agents. May react with aluminum at high temperatures.
  • Melting point: -97°C
  • Solubility: Soluble in organic solvents, sparingly soluble in water.
  • Health risks: 1,2-dichloro-1-fluoroethane can cause eye, skin and respiratory tract irritation. Prolonged exposure may cause internal organ damage. Suspected neurotoxic and carcinogenic effects.
  • Protection and prevention: It is recommended to handle 1,2-dichloro-1-fluoroethane in a well-ventilated environment and to wear personal protective equipment such as gloves, safety goggles and a respirator. In case of skin contact, wash thoroughly with soap and water. If inhaled, remove from contaminated area and seek medical advice.
